Say you’re given a choice: Would you rather have a root canal or make election calls to strangers on behalf of the Democratic Party?
Tough one?
Let’s make it easier: Would you rather have a root canal or spend a few hours out of your week trying to save America by convincing voters in key battleground states to support Democrats who don’t pose a threat to democracy and believe in the policies and values that you do?
Better, yes? Of course. And so, that’s how I’m spending my Saturdays now until Election Day. I can’t think of anything more important than preventing the election of Republicans who believe in – or profess to believe in – the Big Lie; who want to take away women’s reproductive rights; who fight any efforts to slow the earth’s plunge into climate disaster; and who want to take over Congress with such unhinged, unqualified people as Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar.
So, yea, spending a few hours of my time each week making sure we get as many Democrats to the polls as possible seems like a minor inconvenience at worst. At best, it’s one person’s small part in the battle for our country’s future.
Yes, you get people who hang up on you when you tell them while you’re calling. So what? You also get a LOT of people who support our cause and who plan to vote for Democrats in this election.
I am one of thousands of people making election calls each day. I am not alone. Add us all up and it’s a force for our future. We all can do our part. It matters!
I urge you to join us.
